Last home game for @butlermbb today. My fifth season working at Historic Hinkle was another unique season. Shout out to the Hinkle Faithful, got plans for next year already! Tourney time is now though. #GoDawgs
Why battle? Build instead. Soul Sincere. Salutations.
Last day of spirit week = pep rally day = the resident DJ for the school contributes audio narration. We did the #NaeNae (which the 6th graders executed wonderfully; I hadn’t seen it). We jammed to some Bollywood music. Celia Cruz was played. Some William Onyeabor. Bruno Mars “Treasure” was well received, which is cool. And for the adults and especially our music teacher, some fine classical selections from Wagner, Dvorak, Bach and others. One of my favorite days of the year because I get to do what I love more than any other activity: play music for other people. #personalfavorites #willplaypepralliesforfoodandmoney #MrKjamsfortheyouth #myNaeNaeneedswork
Crazy sock day. Rocked some Christmas gift socks from @kelseyranck. Had to cuff my pants all day to stunt on em tho. I’m all in on spirit week this year. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s theme. #personalfavorites #wordsearchsockgamepondem #whogwantest #Ihaveafuncareer
Crazy hair day at school. And I felt incredibly ridiculous taking this picture. Not because of the hair, but the idea of taking a picture of myself…you #selfie warriors can’t be serious when you post bathroom pictures. Can’t be. #personalfavorites #Iclownwiththechildren #butIaintnojokethough #work #WillieJones
#tbt 16 years old. Senior year homecoming. Shining, literally. That is a pick in the back of my TWA (teeny weeny Afro). Swore I was killin’ em. Drove my mama’s black Ford Taurus with my tape adaptor and discman so I could keep it funky. Earned the nickname ILL Will (from @HimHarshaw) for dumping my date a couple days before because her mother insisted on driving us everywhere. I had to say “nah ney no” to that. It was all so simple then! #personalfavorites #youngbossplaya #Pootieisms
A suggested post from a friend of mine who’s a scientist. Henrietta Lacks, known as HeLa in the genetic realm. Here’s what he told me (some of it I knew, some I didn’t): “There was a pivotal discovery made back in the 50s of a very special cell line. The HeLa cell line, discovered from the cancerous cells of an African American woman named Henrietta Lacks, is one of the most important scientific discoveries ever. It was the first human ‘immortal’ cell line and the first human cell line to be successfully grown invitro. Initially it was shared with any scientist interested in furthering the interests of the human race (and still is if they have the correct credentials and for a modest fee). Unfortunately, there is a dark side…Henrietta died of the cancer and the family never received money for the discovery and the status of the cells are still questionable, but they have been used for wonderful advancements for the human race. They helped cure polio, were used to fight numerous viruses and are STILL available to anyone trying to further the field of science and the betterment of the human race. it has been used for both commercial uses (money in the pockets of others) and for egalitarian purposes (free therapies to the public) depending on whose hands they are in. Its one of those questions of technology changes depending on the hands it is in…but it remains, without a doubt, one of the greatest contributions a single person has ever made in both the field of bio-technology and science in general.” So there’s that. Thanks my Brotha Roach for the info! (Bonus: DOOM refers to her on JJ DOOM album because hip hop is informative when real emcees get on the microphone) #blackhistorymonth #HeLa #breakbreadwiththeLacksfam
