Happy Birthday to my Pops. A gem from 1977 at Purdue University including my mother (and they’re stillllllllllll together). Thankful for his love and care, his guidance and his transparency. Proud to call him my father. #personalfavorites #pops #InLivingColor #family

On the gig in old Greenfield; I’m down to roll out just about anywhere. I can say that after all these weddings and receptions, in a whole slew of places, I love that people do it how they see fit. However you want to start the marriage journey, you can do it with some planning and imagination. Should be a fun night tonight of music from the last 40 years that has a low likelihood of offending anybody. #personalfavorites #top40partying #jaaam

#tbt from the site of the ALARM Kabuga Vocational Training Centre. It was really a couple of rooms and a covered area out back for working on various things. Some young men were working on engines when we were there. In the rooms there were a few students working on some circuitry projects. The attention to their work was so spirited and focused, which is something I think is hard to find here in America at times. Being the mental drifter that I am, I turned and saw these awesome folks checking out the scene. It was raining pretty hard; I wore some Air Maxes that are permanently stained with red dirt now (I’ll keep them forever). It was some of the best rain I’ve ever felt or heard, if that makes any sense at all. But anyway, we ended up meeting some of the kids here and they were great. I wish I would’ve known more Kinyarwandan at the time so I could’ve asked them what their names were. I have it in my mind to go back and give them some of the pictures they’re in (especially since one boy was a ham and wanted his picture taken), which sounds ridiculous because who knows if these same people will be in Kabuga whenever I get back. Murabeho to all my Rwandan friends. Oh and thanks to @molconnor @lax2nrt @mtalty for photography advice before I left (they are AWESOME). #rwanda #kabuga #personalfavorites #nikon #notaphotographer #historianmaybe

Finally working on the library. IKEA shelves and some homemade rolling stands for easy movement, in case I want to switch up the setup. Shout out to Home Depot for the lumber. I’m actually glad I paid attention in physics when we talked about mass and so on; it actually helps when it’s time to build stuff that you can’t buy readily. #personalfavorites #myvinyldoesntweighatonbutitsheavy #library

The upside to being at school late is the view from my room. My view was a brick courtyard for the last two years. This is an upgrade. #personalfavorites #lookslikeapark

It’s been almost a year exactly since I first met Celestin Musekura (one day shy of a year). Michele (who took this picture) has known him for 20 years (she led our team in Rwanda; she’s amazing too). I am reminded of what I have learned from him directly and from those who work within the mission he created every day of my life. What a blessing from God it has been to know such an awesome, kind and helpful man. His work in the area of reconciliation is truly inspiring. Now, to figure out when I’ll make it back to my home abroad. I also scored a few points for the handful of Kinyarwandan phrases I know. I hope to be conversationally fluent someday. Wakoze kumpa umwanya wawe. Imana ishimwe. #personalfavorites #alarm #kinyarwanda #rwanda #themission
